ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Treatment

In some medical conditions such as severe pneumonia, heart attack and after open-heart surgery, the sick lungs and heart of the patients are too sick to respond to usual therapies and medical care. A therapy called, ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, ECMO for short, uses an artificial lung and heart to help patients whose lungs and heart cannot work well enough to support the rest of the body.

Currently, Penang Adventist Hospital is the first and only hospital in Northern Malaysia that provide this life-support treatment.
