About the Speakers

Dr. Shanthi Ellen Solomon

Shanthi Ellen Solomon graduated from Christian Medical College, Vellore, under Madras University in 1991 with a degree in Nursing. Subsequently she completed a Masters degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2006 from Loma Linda University, California and later received her doctorate in nursing from the same University in 2015. She holds certifications in counseling crises victims, tobacco addicts and students. She has developed successful study methods & has experience with guiding academically challenged students. Shanthi has over 20 years of experience in various areas of clinical nursing as well as in academia in different countries. From being a nurse, she went on to become a nurse tutor, community health educator and a nurse administrator. As a nurse and a teacher of nurses, she believes that the best nurses are the emotionally well adjusted ones, no matter what their background may be. According to Shanthi, one cannot be a nurse without a patient, therefore it is imperative that a nurse understands all aspects of patient care, thereby making a nurse a lifelong learner. She is passionate about helping nurses understand that nursing is not just about the functions one performs with the hands, it begins with what a nurse puts into the mind. Currently Shanthi Solomon serves as the Nursing Staff Development Manager of Penang Adventist Hospital.

Dr. Lynne Yong Ee Lin

Dr. Lynne Yong completed her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral work and training in the United States of America and is a licensed psychologist in the State of Connecticut, USA. She has worked in Penang General Hospital and Gleneagles Medical Centre before joining Penang Adventist Hospital in 2008. Dr. Yong has worked with a variety of mental issues such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, somatoform disorders, adjustment disorders and some personality disorders. Having worked in several medical facilities, she is also interested in behavioral medicine, She enjoys doing consultation liaison work within a multidisciplinary setting. Dr. Yong also lectures at Penang Medical College and supervises clinical psychology Master’s students. Apart from that, she volunteers with Mercy Malaysia on disaster trauma relief work and has traveled to Sri Lanka, Philippines, and Nepal to date.

Dr. Dicky Ng Teik Kee

Dr Dicky Ng is a Wellness Lifestyle Enthusiast and Advisor in the beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia. He is currently the Vice President for Wellness at Penang Adventist Hospital. His main interest and expertise is in the area of WELLNESS - inspiring people to aspire and achieve wholistic health in mind, body and spirit. Currently he is also the chairperson for Diabetes Malaysia (Formerly known as Malaysia Diabetes Association) Penang Branch. In 2014, with his team, he published a healthedutainment (entertaining health educational comic) book in diabetes care.

Ms A. E. Margarita Malayapillay

Ms. Rita is the President of Penang Association of Counseling & Psychology (PACP), she was involved with (PACP) since its inception in 2000. She obtained her Bachelor with Honours Degree and Diploma of Education from University Malaya, Master of Education on Guidance and Counseling from New Zealand. She is a registered licensed counselor and advisor to the Children’s Court. She is also a Panel Counselor of National Population and Family Development Board (Penang branch). Miss Rita was a school teacher since 1977. She was a full time school counselor from 1996 till 2008 when she retired from St Xaviers Institution, Penang.
