Dr Teoh Boon Wei graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree from the Christian Medical College of Vellore in India. He then returned to Penang to serve as a House Officer & Medical Officer at Hospital Pulau Pinang before pursuing his training to become a general surgeon. He went on to obtain a Master of Medicine in Surgery from the Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Following that, he underwent further training in Urology & passed the Malaysian Board of Urology certification along with obtaining a fellowship in urology from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow. His training took him to many parts of Malaysia as well as overseas where he was a clinical fellow in Urology at the Alfred Health in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr Teoh is well-trained to handle a wide range of urological diseases & procedures. His experience includes conducting out-patient and lower urinary tract procedures, and is skilled at endoscopic ureteric procedures, percutaneous upper tract endoscopy, and open or laparoscopic surgeries.
Apart from having authored publications in international peer-reviewed journals & also having delivered presentations at both the regional and national levels, he participates actively in continuing medical education programmes to stay abreast of advancements in the medical field. In addition, Dr Teoh also engages himself in numerous research activities either as the principal investigator or sub-investigator.
Dr Teoh is currently the Head of the Urology Department at Hospital Pulau Pinang & serves in the Malaysian Board of Urology. Besides being a Urology trainer & examiner, he has also organized several courses, workshops & campaigns. On top of clinical practice, Dr Teoh also serves as an honorary lecturer and MBBCh examiner at the Penang Medical College as well as being an MRCS Examiner for the Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examination. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Surgical Directorate of the Hospital Pulau Pinang Medical Advisory Committee & an independent expert of the Malaysian Ministry of Health, Medical Research & Ethics Committee.
Presently, Dr Teoh is a member of Societe Internationale d'Urologie, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, Malaysian Urological Association & Malaysian Medical Association.
