Dr. Sivakumar graduated from USM in 1993 and started his housemanship in the same year in Hospital Ipoh.
Upon completion of his housemanship, he was posted to Sarawak for two years, where he served in the Sarawak General Hospital and Saratok District Hospital.
He commenced his Obstetric & Gynaecology (O&G) specialist training in Universiti Malaya in 1996 and completed his course in 2000.
Subsequently, Dr. Sivakumar was posted to Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru, in July 2000 as a specialist O&G. He then transferred to Hospital Pulau Pinang in November 2001, where he remains until now. In 2005, Dr. Sivakumar commenced his sub-speciality training in Urogynaecology and completed his three years' training in December 2007. This training included a year at James Cook University, Townsville in Queensland, Australia (2006) under the tutelage of renowned Professor Ajay Rane.
Currently, Dr. Sivakumar is the only Gazzetted Urogynaecologist in the state of Penang and the Northern Region.
He was also the first doctor in Malaysia to use mesh kits in performing prolapse surgery. His main area of interest is in the management of utero vaginal prolapse, recurrent prolapse and the management of female urinary incontinence. Dr. Sivakumar has also had the privilege of presenting many papers on the above-mentioned health issues in both local and international meetings.
Besides being involved in training new urogynaecologists, he is also a member of the National Urogynaecology subcommittee in the Ministry of Health, the International Urogyanecology Association, the O&G Society of Malaysia and the Malaysian Medical Association.
