Dr Khaw Poh Guan graduated from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1998. Upon completing 1 year of housemanship in the Alor Setar Hospital, he returned to Penang Hospital to serve as a Medical Officer in the Surgery and Urology Department.
Dr Khaw subsequently became a Medical Officer at the Paediatric Department, Penang Hospital in 2001. He received the Excellent in Work award from the Malaysian Ministry of Health for the years 2004 and 2005.
Dr Khaw obtained his membership from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, London, United Kingdom in 2006. Upon completion, he was appointed clinical specialist in charge of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Haematology and Oncology Unit, the Neonatal Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Penang Hospital.
Dr Khaw had lectured and conducted clinical rounds for the Penang Medical College Students.
He is a member of the Malaysian Paediatric Association, the Malaysian Medical Association and the Academy of Medicine. He is registered with the Malaysian Medical Council and the National Specialist Register.
He has had clinical attachment in various subspeciality fields in Penang Hospital, Edinburgh University (UK), Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (UK) and Okayama University (Japan).
He has participated in Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Mentorship programme at Loma Linda University, United States, in April 2010.
Since 2010, he has been an American Heart Association certified Instructor for BLS, NRP and PALS.
His areas of interest are Paediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, children's growth & development, childhood allergy diseases, asthma management and paediatric vascular access (peripheral and central).
